OLRS Members: There are two bills in Legislature that propose to reorganize various departments and more importantly, would eliminate the Department of MRDD. Senate Bill 52 sponsored by T. Grendell, and House Bill 25 sponsored by J. Adams both propose to eliminate the Ohio Department of MRDD, break up the various programs and services, and places those programs/services in different departments with in the state. This means there would be more than one state department dealing with the various issues of the MRDD system, and MRDD would need to compete with the other agencies within their newly formed department. To read either bill go to the following link: http://www.legislature.state.oh.us Look up either HB 25 or SB 52 to get the full text. Finally, please let us know how you feel about the proposed legislation. OLMR will gather the information to present to legislature.
